Joost Lagendijk (born 1957) is senior advisor at the Sabanci University’s Istanbul Policy Center and former member of the European Parliament from 1998 to 2009. He will be in Washington, DC this week where he will be a guest at the roundtable discussion Eternal Minorities? on May 5th, 2010, co-hosted by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

Joost was a member of the European Parliament (EP) for the Dutch Greens from 1998 till 2009. In the EP, he mainly dealt with EU policies on the Balkans and Turkey. For many years, he was chairman of the Turkey delegation of the EP and parliament rapporteur for Kosovo. As a MEP, he published three books on the borders of Europe, EU-US relations and Europe's relations with its Muslim neighbours. Before going into politics, he was a publisher for more than ten years. He graduated as a historian from Utrecht University.
